The History-Geography curriculum in 4e

In the 4e class, although history-geography only takes up 3h of the timetable of students each week, it is particularly dense, in view of preparing them for the brevet exam. Note that studying modern languages takes up 5h30, French and science & technology 4h30, and mathematics 3h30.

History-geography in detail

Building on the teaching delivered in 5e, the 4e curriculum focuses on the period from the 18th century to the First World War:

  • Europe and the world in the 18th century: merchant bourgeoisies, international trade and the slave trade, the Europe of the Enlightenment, the French Revolution and the Empire
  • Europe and the world in the 19th century: the Industrial Revolution, conquests and colonial societies
  • France in the 19th century (society, culture and politics): the Third Republic, the condition of women…

The geography curriculum, meanwhile, focuses on urbanisation and globalisation:

  • Urbanisation of the world: geography of centres and peripheries, unevenly connected cities…
  • Transnational human mobility: the world of migrants, tourism and spaces
  • Spaces transformed by globalisation: the maritime world, adaptation of United States territory, the dynamics of the African continent, emerging powers…

Moral and Civic Education in detail

In Moral and Civic Education (EMC), 4e students will focus on respect for others (building self-respect, respecting others, morality and ethics, the role of the law), the values of the Republic (values and symbols of French and European citizenship, principles and characteristics of democratic societies) and how to build civic culture (voting, elections, defence and security).
