The Science & Technology curriculum in 6e
In 6e, science & technology lessons take up 3 hours of the weekly timetable, the same as history-geography. Note that mathematics and modern language lessons each take up 4h and French 5h. Behind this subject are actually two distinct subjects: Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) and Technology.
Life and Earth Sciences in detail
Before tackling physics-chemistry in cycle 4, 6e students get a first scientific approach to the world through the Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) curriculum. The course is organised into several parts:
- Characteristics of the immediate environment and distribution of living things
- The population of an environment
- The origins of the matter making up living things
- Practices serving human nutrition
Technology in detail
Technology lessons aim to give 6e students an idea of the world of industry in general, and to show the link between products and human needs. Lessons will focus on:
- Analysing how a technical object works
- The materials used
- The energies involved
- The evolution of the technical object
- Communication and information management
- The production process of a technical object
To do this, the 6e student will be required to search for information within the collège, but also outside it. They will also work with tools (software, small mechanical devices…).
