The Science & Technology curriculum in 5e

While French takes up 4h30 of the lessons given each week to a 5e student, science & technology takes up just as much, split between Life and Earth Sciences, physical sciences and technology. Note that mathematics lessons last 3h30, history-geography, 3h, and modern languages, 5h30.

Life and Earth Sciences in detail

In SVT, the 5e curriculum is organised around three main strands, with an emphasis on respiration:

  • Living environments: respiration, occupation and distribution of living things;
  • The human body: functioning, energy needs, study of muscles, respiration, digestion and blood circulation;
  • The evolution of land landscapes: erosion, the formation of new sedimentary rocks and fossilisation.

Physical Sciences in detail

In physics-chemistry, 5e lessons are divided into 3 main themes:

  • Water in our environment (mixtures, changes in the state of water, water as a solvent…)
  • Direct current electrical circuits (series circuits and circuits with a branch)
  • Light (sources and rectilinear propagation)

Technology in detail

In technology, 5e students will study:

  • The technical object: function, technical solutions, constraints, context, representation and modelling
  • Energies involved: energy chain, energy saving
  • Materials used: properties of materials, structures and origin of raw materials
