To achieve this, teaching in this subject is organised around <strong>4 key areas<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Spoken language:<\/strong> describing a person, object or place in an organised way using precise and varied vocabulary, dialoguing between students and with the teacher (role play), reading aloud and reciting while bringing out the text&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reading and understanding text and image:<\/strong> reading works related to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, adventure stories, poetry and drama, studying pictorial representations of the medieval and classical periods, establishing a relationship between text and image&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Writing:<\/strong> producing a variety of written work (accounts of personal experience, descriptions, portraits, fictional or real dialogues, drama scenes, poetic texts&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language study:<\/strong> working on grammar (sentence analysis, word classes, functions, conjugation&#8230;), spelling (grammatical, lexical colour spelling, homonyms and homophones), and vocabulary (lexical domains and lexical concepts).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>End-of-year expectations for 5e in French<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>By the end of the 5e year, <strong>orally<\/strong> in French, students must be able to speak to an audience, be active in a spoken exchange and understand complex spoken discourse. <strong>In reading comprehension<\/strong>, they must be an independent reader, able to read and interpret different media (images, documents, literary texts&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p><strong>In writing<\/strong>, they must express themselves fluently, with varied and rich language. They will have begun practising argumentation, which is required for the brevet.
