That&#8217;s the same amount of time as <a href=\"https:\/\/ora-visio.com\/le-soutien-scolaire-a-distance\/les-programmes-scolaires-de-cp-a-la-3e\/les-mathematiques-en-classe-de-6e\/\">maths<\/a>, slightly less than <a href=\"https:\/\/ora-visio.com\/le-soutien-scolaire-a-distance\/les-programmes-scolaires-de-cp-a-la-3e\/le-francais-en-classe-de-6e\/\">French<\/a> (5h), but more than <a href=\"https:\/\/ora-visio.com\/le-soutien-scolaire-a-distance\/les-programmes-scolaires-de-cp-a-la-3e\/lhistoire-geographie-en-classe-de-6e\/\">history-geography<\/a> (3h) and <a href=\"https:\/\/ora-visio.com\/le-soutien-scolaire-a-distance\/les-programmes-scolaires-de-cp-a-la-3e\/les-sciences-technologie-en-classe-de-6e\/\">science &amp; technology<\/a> (3h). Traditionally, this first language is either German or English, though pupils are completely free to choose.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Choosing the first modern foreign language<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Year 7 (<em>6e<\/em>) is marked by a <strong>first key decision<\/strong>: the first modern foreign language taught will lay the foundations of the pupil&#8217;s knowledge, which will need to develop over the following years right up to the baccalaureate.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, schools offer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>German:<\/strong> learning the specific sentence structure, vocabulary, stress and pronunciation. The aim is to be able to make contact and express basic exchanges (introducing oneself, saying thank you, expressing likes, describing activities, giving an opinion\u2026)<\/li>\n<li><strong>English:<\/strong> as with German, the aim is for a Year 7 (<em>6e<\/em>) pupil to be able to express who they are, what they like or would like to do. Note that studying English, which began in Years 4 and 5 (<em>CM1<\/em> and <em>CM2<\/em>, <u>cycle 3<\/u>), is naturally an advantage for building solid foundations in writing, reading and speaking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But Year 7 (<em>6e<\/em>) pupils can also choose <strong>other first modern languages<\/strong> &#8211; such as Spanish or Italian.
